Exercise and the body is an interest which began with my first professional interest - aerobics instructor. The training afforded an introductory education to basic anatomy and sparked my curiosity about how the body works, especially biomechanics. Eventually, a couple of community massage classes introduced me to the benefits of massage. Within my family and friendship circle, I practiced what I learned, and my interest deepened. In college, I considered a career in massage therapy, but didn't actually pursue the interest until years later. The interim provided a plethora of experiences which ultimately better enable me to empathize with clients' injuries and patterns.
working with the body to support and nurture its process of homeostasis is an intriguing and ongoing endeavor. Building upon the basic framework of knowledge, through personal active pursuits and clients' experiences, I continually refine how best to support the body's optimal operation through manual techniques, sharing basic information and self care suggestions. The "laboratory" and "reference library" of my own body helps me learn and better understand structural patterns - how they are established over a lifetime of use, and how we are affected by them. Through sharing information with you, I am rewarded with continued discovery and skill development. Your reward is informed touch!
Skiing, yoga, running, rock climbing, bicycle commuting, gardening & homestead DIY projects are some of my favorite activities. When I am not challenging my body through some active pursuit or giving massage, you will likely find me either indoors making real food from whole, organic ingredients, handcrafting natural soap and other home, health and beauty products, sewing, repurposing items which still offer usefulness, or outdoors tending to our garden, orchard, chickens and bees.
